The short answer
A hard risk breach can end your account. An unmet payout condition usually leaves the account active but prevents the request. Inactivity and confirmed prohibited activity can also result in closure. The outcome depends on the rule, not simply whether the account is profitable.
Rules at a glance
Rule | Outcome |
Applicable daily or trailing drawdown | A breach can fail or close the account |
Applicable Max Trade Loss | A breach can fail or close the account |
Best Day Rule | Payout eligibility is not met; it does not itself close the account |
Profit, qualifying days, closed positions, minimum amount | Request is unavailable until the applicable requirements are met |
14-day Futures inactivity | Account closure under the inactivity policy |
Prohibited activity or unauthorized account access changes | May lead to closure or payout action under the relevant policy |
Hard risk breaches
Daily and trailing drawdown limits are checked against live equity. Max Trade Loss is a separate rule and can breach an otherwise profitable account. The applicable percentages depend on program, phase and account size.
Read daily drawdown, trailing drawdown and Max Trade Loss for their calculations. Do not assume a daily reset reverses a breach.
Payout conditions
The Best Day Rule is 35% on current funded Thunderbolt Classic accounts and 20% on Vanguard. Classic accounts purchased before October 29, 2026 retain 20%. Horizon has no Best Day Rule in either phase.
Profit requirements, qualifying days, verification, the Trader Agreement, closed positions, the minimum payout and the applicable cap must also be satisfied. See Futures payout conditions. Missing one does not by itself turn a profitable account into a trading-rule breach.
Inactivity and other closures
Futures accounts use a 14-calendar-day inactivity period. Closing a trade resets the activity timer. See the inactivity policy.
The prohibited-strategies policy also applies. Do not share the account or change platform access credentials in a way that prevents required account review. Contact support if an access change is needed.
If you believe a closure is wrong
Check the stated reason and the rules assigned to the account. Contact support with your Account ID and the relevant trade details. Any review or appeal follows the applicable policy; an unmet payout condition and a closed account require different action.
